Widetronixs mission is to bring autonomous power and intelligence to the wireless world. The company will do this by bringing to market an innovative class of battery, called betavoltaics, that enables self-powered wireless sensors. Similar to photovoltaics, betavoltaics generate power by collecting electrons from decaying isotopes using a proprietary silicon carbide semiconductor. This technology compliments energy harvesting and power storage technologies by providing a continuous current and voltage over a flexible operational lifetime (25 days to 25 years). This technology integrates with microprocessors for defense, industrial, infrastructure, and medical applications. The company, based in Ithaca, New York, has licensed a Cornell patent and has its own patents pending.
